TEHRAN -- The TV series “Shahriar” by director Kamal Tabrizi is now ready for broadcasting.

A Sima Film production, based on a screenplay by Mehdi Sajjadehchi, it centers round the life of the contemporary poet Shahriar.
Mohammad-Hossein Behjat Tabrizi (1906-1988) selected Shahriar as his pen name. He composed his first poem for his mother when he was four years old.
Commenting on the titles of the episodes, designer Gelareh Kiazand told Mehr News Agency that she had begun work on the series, together with Arash Sadeqi, early in June.
“We viewed the first episode along with its director Tabrizi and then asked for his viewpoint as well.
“The titles commence with the famous piece “Heidar Baba” written in the poet’s own handwriting, and the names of the cast and crew have been added using the same graphic style as Shahriar’s.
The theme music accompanying the titles has been composed by veteran musician Farhad Fakhreddini with the addition of vocalist Salar Aqili.
Sirus Gorjestani and Ardeshir Rostami play the role of Shahriar in his old age and youth respectively.
Saeid Nikpur, Behruz Baqaii, Elham Hamidi, Rahim Noruzi and Payam Dehkordi are also amongst the cast.
Shahriar published his first book of poems in 1929, with prefaces by Iranian scholars Mohammad-Taghi Bahar, Saeid Nafisi, and Pejman Bakhtiari.
His poems are mainly influenced by Hafez. His most famous works are “Heidar Babaya Salam”, a poem dedicated to his birthplace Heidar Baba village, and “The Blessing Bird of Good Omen”, which is about Imam Ali (AS).
Shahriar died on September 18, 1988, and the day was designated in 2002 as Iran’s National Day of Poetry and Literature.
